The Shenandoah High School Alumni Association held its 80th Annual Banquet on Saturday May 4, 2019 at the Shenandoah Elementary School (Formerly the High School). The reception and social hour started at 4:30pm in the school cafeteria. Prior to the program, Shenandoah High School Class of 1959 held a reception at the Historic Stevens Cottage on Maryland Avenue in Shenandoah and were celebrating their 60th Anniversary.

The banquet started at 5:30pm and was held in the school gymnasium and was catered by Rutz’s Backyard BBQ.

Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Jennifer Rothgeb Martin was the guest speaker. She was born and raised in Shenandoah Va and attended Shenandoah Elementary School and graduated in 1993 from Page County High School. LTC Martin is a graduate from Bridgewater College, James Madison University, the United States Army Command and General Staff College and Liberty university with a Master’s degree in Management and Leadership. She described her journey from leaving the Shenandoah Valley to being stationed in Iraq working under General Petraeus. LTC Martin was also the guest speaker during Shenandoah’s 2017 Memorial Day Ceremony and was Grand Marshal in the Memorial Day Parade.

A special presentation was given to Mr. Rondal D. “Relic” Comer (Class of 1952) for Outstanding Military Service to the United States Of America during the Korean War, and receiving the Purple Heart.

Recognition of Reunion Classes 1944, 1949, 1954, 1959 and class 1964 from Page County High School.

Charles Grunewald from Charles Grunewald Auctions was on hand and auctioned off a basket from Belk that will help fund the annual Scholarship for a graduating senior at Page County High School. Alumni President Vincent (Buddy) Comer, announced the winner of this years $ 1,750 scholarship but the recipient was not able to attend the banquet.

In closing, all in attendance rose and sang the School Song “Hail to Shenandoah Hail”

Decorations were accomplished by Joyce Morris and Doris Shuler Stone.

The Shenandoah High School Alumni Association was formed in 1939 and this year was celebrating 80 years of heritage and fellowship
