It took years of planning, fundraising, and a lot of hard work, but now Shenandoah Veterans Park has been completed. On Friday May 25, 2012 at 6Pm the dedication ceremony took place. Introductions were provided by Mayor Clinton Lucas and councilman Richard Pierce, while Vice Mayor Bill kite provided the music. Members of Avis O Comer VFWÂ Post 8613 posted the colors and Rachel Monteleone and Rachel Zwanig sang the National Anthem. Representatives of all services were on hand to raise their services flag. Former Mayor Jack Rinaca gave the history of the land donation. Annie Pierce and Pat Glenn described the idea for the park and each of the different steps involved. Dolores Lackovitch placed a wreath on behalf of the Shenandoah River Chapter of the DAR. Hank Almond placed a wreath on behalf of Fort Harrison Chapter of the SAR. Vic Diehl placed a wreath on behalf of The Society of the War of 1812 in Virginia. Members of the American Legion Post 27 in Dayton gave a 21 gun salute. Taps was played by PCHS Band Member. Invocation and benediction were given by Reverend Stephen Creech. More information on the ceremony can be found on the ceremony's program guide listed below. After the ceremony, the boy scouts held their annual flag retirement ceremony. The park is located at 205 Virginia Avenue, across from the Post Office.
