Back in 2009, the landscape around the pond at Big Gem Park looked a lot differently than it does today.
At that time the only space adequate to accommodate a swing set was located in a small patch of woods behind the pond. Fast forward to June 2026, with the Gazebo and large mound of dirt being removed from next to the pond, the swing set can now be relocated closer to the playground equipment. From the Shenandoah Town Council Meeting Minutes for May 26, 2026 we read under Parks and Recreation “Town Manager Charlie Jenkins mentioned Turner Concrete and Excavating, LLC will come back to clean up the brush pile. The Public Works Crew plans to move the swing set to the playground area.” Follow link below to read about how many local businesses were instrumental in bringing this swing set to Big Gem Park. The swing set project was completed in March 2009.
