While driving around Shenandoah this week, we saw that there is a lot going on!
Across from Big Gem Park we saw where Turner Concrete and Excavating have been doing a lot cleaning up on their newly purchased property. This will be their new home for their concrete and excavating business and equipment. This business is owned by Jon Turner. This property is located at 737 Fourth Street in Town of Shenandoah, across the highway from Big Gem Park.
We visited Big Gem Park on October 1, 2025 and saw where the Town Maintenance crew was busy working beside the picnic shelter, removing brush and trees. According to Shenandoah Town Manage Charlie Jenkins, the workers are Putting in a half Basketball Court. The town received a $8,000 grant from PACA for this.
We drove up Junior Avenue and saw where workers are remodeling the house at the corner of J Street and Junior Avenue. No one has lived in this house for many years now. It nice to see this house and property get some much-needed attention.
Our travels then took us out to Pocahontas Ave, next to Autumn Ridge Apartments. Here we saw where a new home has been completed and workers are busy building others.
On Thursday of this week we saw where there is a new Business in Shenandoah, Melissa’s Sweet Tea & Sliders. This mobile food trailer is located in front of the Shenandoah Car wash at 602 Fourth Street and this business is owned by Melissa Wyant. This business was located in the Town of Elkton. See related article on this new business.

We have been seeing a lot of Elliot Contractor truck in our area lately. We have observed them installing larger utility poles on numerous streets in town. On Wednesday October 1, 2025 we took a picture of them installing a new larger utility pole at intersection of Denver Avenue and Ninth Street. Some of the work they are doing is part of Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative’s (SVEC) internal fiber optic network project. According to SVEC’s website it states “SVEC is installing an internal fiber optic network that will connect the electric infrastructure and our offices to provide improved communication system wide, greater operational reliability and enhance cybersecurity.”
Statement from Preston Knight, Communication Manager with Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative. “What you and others are seeing is likely for various reasons, including SVEC’s fiber project that you reference. Elliot also works on our capital projects and pole maintenance as well as a contractor for companies that attach to our poles for services, such as internet (Brightspeed, for example). There is a lot of work going on in that area and Elliot crews are doing the bulk of it.”
